Companies that deploy RFID systems will need to use 'complex event processing' to identify meaningful information from the stream of data RFID readers will provide.

According to article authors David Luckham and Mark Palmer, "It's not enough to use RFID as a "radio bar code." The savings from eliminating hand scanning of bar codes won’t pay for an enterprise-wide RFID system. Companies need to find ways to gather information they could not get with bar codes and analyze it in ways that make their businesses more efficient.
